Position Summary


Information Technology Services (IT)
The IT unit exists to provide comprehensive information technology delivery and support in the form of personnel, desktop and mobile computing, multimedia equipment, hardware, network infrastructure, software, telephone and network cabling services to the University community.   This unit is the centralized computing services department for the University.
 
Innovative Technology Group (ITG) - Instructional Technology
The work group exists to provide campus with instructional technology, multimedia services, and website technical expertise in support of students, faculty, staff, and technology users. The ITG is the experience layer of the technology enriched environment for the academic learning community. The team consists of the Solutions Center, Instructional Technology, Multimedia Services, and IT Technicians. Solutions Center is the first point of contact for IT leading end users to the appropriate resources and resolutions. Instructional Technology provides assistance and resources for many technology questions and requests from faculty, staff and students as it pertains to academic learning and technology use in the modern classroom, online classroom, and throughout the internet. Multimedia Services oversee the installation, maintenance, and management of classrooms, signage, and video conferencing. IT Technicians maintain the campus hardware in offices and computer labs. Overall, the ITG assists in solving problems and developing projects using a variety of software, hardware, and innovative technologies.

Instructional Technology is the tier 2 unit for dealing with campus wide instructional technology. Prompt, accurate, and excellent customer service is expected when providing assistance and resolution for instructional technology related questions and requests. The Instructional Technologist reports directly to the Manager of Innovative Technology, and works within the ITG to assist faculty in the development of instructional projects and technology-based materials to be used in classroom instruction. The Instructional Technologist investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration, sources of information on current trends and training opportunities to campus community through digital communication such as social media, blog, vlog, email digest, and the ITG websites.  It provides consultation and assistance in the development of hybrid courses, online courses, and multimedia elements, in conjunction with assisting in the training of the campus systems utilizing a variety of hardware, software, and current emerging technologies.
 
The Instructional Technologist generates training materials for faculty and staff as well as assisting the needs on campus in relation to professional development.  The technologist uses multimedia to assist the campus community with course sites, surveys, video presentations, audio presentations, podcasting, and video conferencing.
 
This position in coordination with the Manager of Innovative Technology serves as the primary administrator of the learning management system including, but not limited to, adding/removing users, adding/removing courses, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing regular maintenance, while coordinating with the Network and Server Systems team to provide a high level of uptime. The instructional technologist provides training and support for this system and other ITG supported software and hardware to campus community by identifying symptoms, troubleshooting and resolving problems utilizing established techniques, procedures, practices and methodologies. The instructional technologist resolves technology questions, issues and requests in an efficient, effective and timely manner, while fostering an open-door environment that encourages the campus community to walk-in with instructional technology challenges.
 
The Instructional Technologist oversees day to day operations and is in charge of maintaining they physical spaces pertaining to instructional technology.  The position meets on a regular basis with the manager to discuss "best uses and practices" of academic technology in order to preserve the standards established by the campus and the department.  The technologist follows up and secures completion of tasks as outlined by the supervisor; collects and maintains statistical data for assessment and analysis; researches and assesses new emerging instructional technologies including the evaluation of new software and other instructional technology packages. The technologist continues to broaden personal knowledge base and skill set as it relates to emerging technologies; and attends seminars and training as available and appropriate.

Position Duties and Responsibilities


Primary Duties

  • LMS Administration, Educational Consultation, and Projects
    • Supports all aspects of the campus Learning Management System as the lead administrator. Tasks include integrations, upgrades, and updates.
    • Creates and manages in-person consultation and online training for faculty, staff, and students using a variety of technological software and hardware.
    • Assists and advises end-users on current, new, creative and effective techniques, and best practices. Assists in solving problems and developing projects using a variety of software and innovative technologies.
  • Training and Documentation
    • Offers technology workshops throughout the year that support instructional and multimedia environments which facilitate "best use" technology practices.
    • Develops training materials that address how technology is utilized on and off campus. Illustrates how new technology can complement various curriculum or coursework. Prepares training materials regularly using appropriate and current technology tools which facilitate "best use" technology practices.
    • Supports campus efforts by providing assistance in development and implementation of special projects such as instructional technology integrated in the academic learning communities, training videos and documentation, surveys, video and audio presentations.
  • Communications
    • Maintains communications with the campus community on updates and offerings from the ITG using methods such as a blog, vlog, or IT website as a mechanism to provide information as well as schedule of events that supports course offerings. Sends out campus email digest reminders in a timely manner to increase campus communications.
  • Workstudy Supervisor and  Multimedia Room Coordinator
    • Assists in day to day operations of the ITG. Meets on a consistent basis with Manager of Innovative Technology to plan future training, surveys, and communications. Assists in managing work-study duties and responsibilities.
    • Maintains multimedia room scheduling, access, and maintenance.
Ancillary Duties
  • Assists various campus services with software and multimedia technology.  Examples include occasionally setting up Zoom sessions for guest speakers, interviews, recording and uploading Presidential videos, and helping other campus services that directly impact the university as a whole.
  • Special projects or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree
  • Strong communication skills with excellent customer service
  • Experience with a Learning Management System
  • Organizational skills
  • Team player
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Visual Communications, Interactive Media, Mass Communications/New Media Studies, Information Technology, or Computer Information Systems
  • Experience working with faculty/staff/students in higher education
  • Experience in a position that required performance or demonstrated knowledge of the following:
    • Administration of a Learning Management System
    • Adobe Master Collection
    • Self-starter/self-motivated
