Communications Officer

Job Description

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, Office of Innovation and Strategy (OIS), implements communications and marketing activities that highlight OIS initiatives across MIT and ensures consistent and engaging messaging across digital and print platforms. This position is evenly divided between MIT HEALS, MIT’s Health and Life Sciences Collaborative, and project-based work supporting other OIS initiatives. Key responsibilities include developing and executing integrated communications strategies; managing web content and maintaining OIS and affiliated program websites to ensure information is accurate and accessible; drafting and editing written and visual content for newsletters, presentations, websites, and social media, while coordinating content calendars and tracking engagement; providing communications support for events and new initiative launches; and preparing materials for leadership, and produces reports, collateral, and branded templates; coordinating with freelance designers, photographers, and writers, collaborating with communications leads across OIS, and maintaining organized communications assets; and monitoring media coverage and track performance metrics, including web analytics and social media engagement.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field; a minimum of three years of experience in communications or marketing, preferably in higher education, research, or nonprofits; and strong writing and editing skills, experience with content management systems, social media tools, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. PREFERRED: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and MIT communications experience.
