Job Description

In partnership with other team members, the Director of Visual Media is responsible for directing the College’s visual brand, including but not limited to the College’s website, television programming and production, commercials, and other digital and visual content.

Required Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, multimedia production, graphic design, or a closely related field.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in visual media, television or video production, digital marketing, or related creative services.
Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with video production equipment, editing software, and digital content platforms.
  • Experience managing or maintaining broadcast systems (such as in-house or local access television).
  • Strong understanding of digital branding, visual storytelling, and online media strategies.
  • Ability to oversee technical operations and ensure high-quality production standards.
Management and Leadership:
  • Experience supervising staff or coordinating creative teams and projects.
  • Proven ability to plan budgets, manage resources, and oversee departmental operations.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated success in representing an organization professionally to media outlets and the public.
Other Requirements:
  • Commitment to supporting and advancing the College’s mission and brand.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by productions and events.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
Master’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, film production, graphic design, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
  • Experience working in a higher education, nonprofit, or public-sector environment.
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing institutional branding or marketing campaigns.
  • Proven track record of leading multimedia teams and coordinating large-scale production projects.
  • Experience with script-writing, on-air presentation, or media relations.
Technical Expertise:
  • Advanced skills in video editing, motion graphics, and 3D animation (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Premiere Pro, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) and digital asset management.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast operations, including scheduling and maintaining on-air systems.
Creative and Strategic Strengths:
  • Demonstrated ability to translate institutional goals into compelling visual and digital content.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative, high-quality multimedia projects.
  • Awareness of current trends in visual communication, social media, and digital storytelling.

Physical Demands

  • Work is typically performed in an office, studio, and production environment.
  • Requires extended periods of sitting and computer work as well as frequent movement throughout campus facilities and event locations.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and set up production or broadcast equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Involves occasional climbing, bending, and reaching when installing or adjusting cameras, lighting, or other equipment.
  • May require evening or weekend hours in support of College events, productions, or media coverage.
  • Ability to visually inspect and evaluate video content and digital media for quality control.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both in person and electronically.
