Essential Job Duties

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Services, the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Career Services is responsible for executing a robust suite of services designed to help 3,800+ Poole College of Management undergraduate students explore a wide range of undergraduate business career paths and acquire the necessary skills to secure competitive internships and full-time job opportunities. As this is a student facing role, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Design and deliver robust suite of career development activities – 70%
  • Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, bootcamps, and tools tailored to equip undergraduate students with information about various career paths and essential job search skills.
  • Design, implement, and evolve specific career development programs including an employer-led mock interview program, industry specific programming, and a tiered Learning Pathways model to career preparation.
  • Provide one on one career coaching services that include: career and major exploration, function and industry exploration, delivery and interpretation of assessments, job search strategy design, resume and cover letter writing and review, interview preparation, graduate school considerations, and job offer evaluation and negotiation.
  • Support delivery of M120, Poole College’s undergraduate career and professional development course. This will include: teaching sections of the course, designing and delivering course content, coordinating external partner guest speakers.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director, Poole College Career Services, the Associate Director of Undergraduate Career Services, and the Director, Graduate Career Services, Technical Operations and Metrics, to measure engagement with undergraduate career offerings, quality of and satisfaction with career offerings, and overall impact of career offerings on undergraduate student success.
  • Provide leadership to the Peer Career Coach student organization overseeing the recruitment and training of peer career coaches and the delivery of peer career coach student support and programming.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Poole College undergraduate professional clubs and organizations and their respective faculty advisor to provide timely, targeted promotion of career development and employment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to design and deliver customized career and professional development content as needed.
  • Collaborate with other Career Center team members in the design and delivery of: orientation events, career fairs, and employer engagements.
  • Research industry trends,employment outlook, and salary standards to assist students to make informed decisions.
  • Develop and maintain an online repository of resources in Moodle.

External partner engagement – 10%
  • Employer and alumni engagement. Support employer and alumni participation in a variety of professional and career skills development activities such as: resume reviews, panel discussions, mock interviews, guest speaking opportunities, etc.
  • Meet regularly with Employer Relations Manager and key employer partners to understand talent needs of core organizations across a variety of functions and industries.
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations at the regional and/or national level.

Internal partner engagement – 10%
  • Collaborate with Poole College staff and faculty to promote cross functional partnerships. This could include working with the offices of undergraduate advising, student engagement and advocacy, high impact experiences, admissions, development, marketing and communications, etc.
  • Establish relationships and build collaborative partnerships with university units and attend university events.

Other Responsibilities

  • In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there will be occasional opportunities to take on additional duties. This offers an opportunity to build on your skills, explore new areas, and gain a deeper understanding of the department’s operations.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in a counseling-related field, business, HR, higher education, student services or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a complex counseling role, a complex career services organization, or corporate human resources development role or related experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of counseling and career development theories and techniques; skills to use individual and group counseling techniques to assist individuals with career decision and development, ensuring career readiness of each unique student. Coaching certification is a plus.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications, management and training abilities, and public relations are a must.
  • Skills to assist individuals in identifying influencing factors in career decision making, such as friends, family, educational opportunities, and finances; current knowledge of employment and career planning materials.
  • Ability to create, plan, implement, and manage career programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional networks.
  • Sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with varied populations, understanding FERPA, HIPPA and confidentiality requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, work in a fast paced environment, with an attention to detail and serve a broad range of internal and external constituents such as students, faculty and staff, alumni, and employers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of career information management systems as they relate to campus interviewing, student/employer/job databases, resume referral, and registering for campus career events.
