Sr. Manager, Accounting

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Manager, Accounting to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Sr. Manager, Accounting (H) oversees the accounting teams and/or accounting functions, provides highlevel financial support, and identifies and resolves discrepancies to improve financial data accuracy. The Sr. Manager, Accounting (H) ensures Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal best practices are being followed and manages internal and external financials, audits, compliance, accounting controls, and projects.

  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including footnote and financial table preparation in US GAAP.

  • Oversees preparation of compliance and accounting ad-hoc requests.

  • Ensures timeliness, quality, and completeness of all financial and accounting transactions and reporting.

  • Provides and manages team to produce cash flow results, financial line analysis, account reconciliations, and flux analysis.

  • Monitors and assesses the impact of business process changes, identifies new risk areas, and implements appropriate changes.

  • Partners with various central offices and departments to provide guidance around compliance and implementation of controls, as well as project needs.

Department Specific Functions

  • Lead accounting initiatives to meet operational goals, contribute to strategic planning, and execute action plans that enhance productivity, quality, and customer service.

  • Oversee all accounting functions related to UHealth Facilities Operations & Planning, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Investigate and resolve accounting issues involving contractors, vendors, and suppliers, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

  • Ensure all accounting entries are recorded properly, accurately, and timely.

  • Prepare accrual entries to accurately capture expenses and revenues for each accounting period.

  • Monitor financial status by tracking revenue and expenses, consolidating financial data, and preparing special reports.

  • Develop annual budgets, forecast financial requirements, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions as needed.

  • Establish and maintain robust accounting controls, defining policies and procedures to safeguard the organization's financial security.

  • Research and interpret accounting policies, providing guidance to other departments on operational issues.

  • Identify and implement system improvements to enhance operational efficiency and resolve problems.

  • Analyze financial trends and develop insights for forecasting and operational decision-making.

  • Maintain the organization's financial security by implementing and monitoring internal controls.

  • Ensure the confidentiality and protection of sensitive financial information.

  • Stay updated with the latest accounting practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and engaging with professional networks.

  • Verify the completeness and compliance of financial documents with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Process journal entries and reconcile sub-ledgers to the general ledger, resolving discrepancies.

  • Supervise a team of three or more full-time staff, overseeing their development and performance.

  • Conduct performance appraisals and manage team dynamics with the authority to recommend hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions.

  • Exchange complex, non-routine information effectively, using tact and persuasive communication skills.

  • Foster collaboration and effective communication within the team and across departments.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the department and the organization’s financial objectives.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.

  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.

  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.

  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.

  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.

  • Advanced knowledge in the use of financial accounting software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required.

  • Ability to analyze, consolidate and interpret accounting data.

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software and databases.

  • Ability to identify creative solutions to support greater efficiency and effectiveness of processes and procedures.

  • Ability to direct and supervise.

  • Able to work effectively in a multicultural workplace with a diverse customer base.

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.

  • Developing and tracking budget expenses.
