The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Geography for Las Positas College. Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in physical geography (lecture and lab), cultural/human geography, world regional geography, California geography, atmospheric science, and/or introductory GIS.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide face-to-face and/or asynchronous instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
- Create and maintain an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
- Meet with students outside of class periodically (office hours);
- Evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters;
- Grade student’s work;
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
- Maintain accurate academic records.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in geography OR Bachelor’s in geography AND Master’s in geology, history, meteorology or oceanology OR the equivalent OR see Interdisciplinary Studies.
Interdisciplinary Studies – Master’s in the interdisciplinary area OR Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline.
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates will have community college experience or experience being the instructor of record in lower division courses;
- Experience teaching in-person, and/or online, and/or in a hybrid format.
